Week 9: Website prototype progress

Kallie Rollenhagen October 26, 2025

Okay, I’m crawling out of vacation mode! This doesn’t quite feel at the 80–90% goal post, but I was able to make some progress on my Figma files (and Figma prototype), which at this point, feels like the goal I’m aiming for on the website front. From the previous update:

  • I’ve sketched out the top 8 pages: Home, Work, About, Contact, Join, Directory Bio, Directory, Join Form, Case Study Template.

  • The sneaky time suck is actually developing copy. Since I’m starting from scratch on this studio and brand, the task of editing down copy is actually a useful, if time-intensive, task.

Work I need to focus on this week:

  • Tightening up and completing these pages. This will involve some Figma tutorials like making radio buttons and refreshing myself on carousel sliders.

  • Thinking through the directory filters.

  • Adding a few last pages like newsletter signup and maybe another case study.

  • Finalizing prototype features.

  • Reviewing first round user feedback to make sure I’ve addressed things folks thought would be helpful to see on the website.

  • Ideally, I’d also like to send this off to a few folks to get some additional feedback.

Total deliverables for next Sunday:

  • Rural Design Studio brand platform + visual identity

  • Finalized Figma website prototype

  • Biggest area I need to pivot on/figure out: My capstone page! I had wanted to make it a page on my published website, but since I’m going to focus instead the Figma prototype, I may need to pivot that back to a GitHub page.

  • TBD: Diner menu. I’d still like to work on a draft of this, but I will prioritize the website prototype.

  • TBD: Any additional mockups.

Questions for feedback:

  • I don’t currently have the Rural Design Directory in the primary nav, mostly because I don’t see that being fully built out at launch. That could be available for folks who want to reach out to someone 1:1 for smaller or very specific design tasks. I could add that in the footer, or the top nav…any thoughts?

  • As I think through the case study template, I want to show both process and outcomes. However, I also don’t want to overwhelm folks. How is the current balance feeling on that Nice Things case study?
