If I had a time machine, I’d go back and have someone get move-in photos of Jason and me moving into our first house together. It’s such a big milestone, and there’s something about the giddy possibility of empty rooms. When Madeline and Cale reached out about engagement photos and also told me they were about to move into their new house, they were gracious enough to go with my vision — despite it being a school night (they’re both teachers) ahead of a big life transition weekend.
Madeline and puppy Kiki were there to greet me in their sweet old home. As we waited for Cale, I got to witness Madeline unboxing their new dishware and putting away books. I got to see how excited Kiki was to have a front porch to people-watch from. Cale arrived, followed closely by his parents, who helped to unload a chair, one of the first pieces of furniture. So many firsts, so much excitement!
I was amazed at how calm and low-key Madeline and Cale were about it all. It’s clear they put each other at ease and love to make each other laugh. They had a tickle fight in the stairwell, happily obliged when I had them cuddle together in a vacant future bedroom, and snuggled together near the kitchen sink. These photos are some of my favorites — so intimate, happy, trusting, and holding a world of possibility.
Madeline and Cale, thank you for inviting me into this really special — and full — moment. I’m excited for all that’s next for you both!
