One of the reasons I started carrying a camera was to document my own life and the life of my family. My oldest brother and my sister-in-law have given the Rollenhagen side the only grandchildren my parents will likely get. My nieces and nephew are some of my favorite people — as well as the best subjects to photograph! Anna and Emma are twins, but each with their own big and unique personalities. Little Ethan gets happier every day, and he’s just a cuddler! And, Pat and Nicole are just the best parents…it’s really a joy to see your sibling as a parent.
This year, it made the most sense to do family photos down at our family farm. We happened to time it with the last day of harvest. As I drove down the gravel road home, I could see my other brother in the combine, finishing up with the last of the corn. It’s always one of my favorite times to be back home. But, it was wiiiiindy! There’s nothing like a strong prairie wind, so the real challenge for this session was to find some spots where everyone’s hair wasn’t blowing everywhere.
We managed to find a couple of wind-free zones and I had so much fun editing through these happy, silly faces. My sister-in-law also got my parents to come out for some photos. We wrapped up with a visit to Grandma R uptown, as well as good Polly Pocket playtime. I’m so grateful to have a family that values my photography skills, and trusts me enough to do all the sometimes-weird photographer asks. :)
