I was already floating from the beamy, foggy October sunrise, and then Kelli, Kenneth, and Leon showed up with quilts and the best baby cheeks and I nearly burst. While Leon saved his biggest laughs for the nap following our early morning session, I’ll admit I’m partial to little ones who are pensive, curious and content. Leon had such a gentle gaze, and as the daughter of a quilter, I adored seeing him wrapped up in and crawling around on the quilts made by his mother and other family members.
I felt honored to be able to kneel under the willow tree and watch from a distance during a snack break. It was those glimpses-of-daily-life moments I felt the absence of Leon’s older sister, Iris, most keenly. She died just a few months after birth, and we took these a few weeks before Iris’s birthday. What intensely loving parents Leon and Iris have. To fully round out the family session, at the end puppy Ellie joined us. It turned out she was the most adept at all of us at coaxing some morning smiles out of Leon.
Kelli and Kenneth, thank you for letting me share this dewy, sweet time with you and your wonderful family.
